Employee Health Handbook: Looking After Your Liver
Recent research suggests that a high-fructose diet can aggravate fatty liver disease, especially when it is combined with low testosterone. Although the study was carried out on mice, it offers a useful reminder for employees: what we eat and drink can affect our long-term metabolic health in ways that are not immediately obvious. Fructose, a type of sugar found in many soft drinks and processed snacks, is particularly easy to consume in large amounts without noticing. Staff are therefore encouraged to check labels, choose water rather than sugary drinks, and keep sugary treats for occasional rather than daily consumption. If you have an underlying health condition or a family history of liver disease, it is advisable to discuss it with your GP. Early advice is far more effective than waiting until symptoms appear.
New Staff Training: Health and Wellbeing Programme
All new employees are required to attend a short health and wellbeing induction during their first week. The session explains the support available, including confidential advice on diet, stress and sleep, and shows how small lifestyle changes can make a real difference. Participants are also introduced to the company's annual health screening, which is free and voluntary. The screening is designed to identify risk factors early, not to judge individual habits. Staff who wish to take part should book an appointment through the intranet. Line managers are expected to allow reasonable time for these appointments, provided that operational needs are not seriously affected. Completion of the induction is recorded on the employee's training file.
Health Screening Leave and Sick Leave Policy
Employees are eligible for one paid health screening appointment per year. To request time off, complete the online form at least five working days in advance and notify your manager. Approval will normally be given unless the requested date clashes with a critical deadline or a staff shortage. If you feel unwell on the day of your appointment, inform your manager as soon as possible; the appointment can be rearranged without penalty. Sick leave should be reported before the start of your shift, and a medical certificate may be requested for absences of more than three days. Staff are reminded that preventive care is part of good performance, not an interruption to it.
